Pediatric Practice Management: The Fundamentals
The pattern repeats in every state: a clinically excellent pediatric practice, deeply trusted by its families, quietly struggling as a business — not because anyone stopped caring, but because nobody ever taught the business side of the medicine.
This book closes that gap. Written peer-to-peer for pediatrician-owners, practice managers, and the physicians preparing to lead, every chapter moves from concept to calculation to action: what to measure, how to compute it from the systems you already run, and what to do Monday morning with the answer.
Inside the book: the table of contents
Fourteen chapters in five parts. Each chapter opens with a real-shaped problem at a running case practice, resolves it by the close, and ends with review questions — every one answered in the appendices, alongside the coding companion, the consolidated benchmark tables, the glossary, and the complete partnership-agreement checklist.
Built the way practices actually work
Numbers you can reproduce
Every metric is computed from a billing export and a spreadsheet — no proprietary software, no analyst on staff. If the book asks you to measure something, it shows the arithmetic.
A case you can follow
One practice — four partners, a familiar set of problems — runs through all fourteen chapters. Each chapter opens with its dilemma and closes with the resolution, worked in full.
Pediatrics only
Vaccine economics, well-visit capture, panel lifetime value, Medicaid realities, payer negotiation for small practices — the material general practice-management books skip is the core here.
The toolkit is included
A coding companion, a consolidated benchmark appendix, a 320-term glossary, the complete 200-decision partnership checklist, and 50+ companion worksheets mapped chapter by chapter.
About the author
Paul (Paulie) D. Vanchiere, MBA, is the founder of the Pediatric Management Institute, which provides financial analysis, consulting, and education to independent pediatric practices across the United States. The methodology in this book has been refined across two decades of practice assessments, conference teaching, and the PMI Practice Management BootCamp.
He learned the subject the way no course can teach it: growing up inside his father’s pediatric practice, then working as a financial analyst for one of the country’s largest children’s hospitals and, for the last twenty-plus years, alongside hundreds of independent pediatric practices.
